I am a 34-year-old woman who has dreamed of becoming a mother since I was a child (so cliché, I know). Married in 2005, my husband and I began trying for a baby in 2008; unfortunately, we have not been able to conceive. I have tracked, temped, brushed up on the birds and the bees (which is far more complicated than I recalled teachers explaining in high school), and lent my body to science. That big fat positive (BFP) remains elusive. Fortunately for my husband and I, we were accepted into the in vitro fertilization (IVF) program at the ART Institute of Washington (bestivf.org) in Bethesda, Maryland. We are scheduled to participate in the January 2013 cycle. On Womb Wasteland, I will share what I have learned, address some of the issues unique to infertile couples, and share my IVF experience. Join me. It should be a hell of a ride.
